Psalm 24 – The Path to Revival. [Part 1]

Psalm 24 is more than just a beautiful song, or passionate scripture. It is a key. Line by line, God is teaching us something through David. Since it is a short passage, I will post the entire passage, and then we will go verse by verse. If we understand the lesson God is speaking here, we might just find ourselves one step closer to revival.

A Psalm of David.
The earth is the LORD’S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers. Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from the LORD And righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face–even Jacob. Selah. Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates, And lift them up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.
Psalm 24:1-10

This passage ends with The King of Glory coming in. This is more or less what we call REVIVAL. All of the great awakenings and revivals of the church have been marked by an increase of the Presence of God. So, if that is the goal, lets see what happens before the King of Glory comes in. Lets begin with verse 1:

“…The earth is the LORD’S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it.” Psalm 24:1

This verse is beautiful. It reminds us that The Lord owns everything on the earth. Often times we forget that. We think that because we see the works of the kingdom of darkness that somehow that kingdom owns the earth. But the Bible is very clear that while the Kingdom of darkness has been allowed to operate on the Earth, GOD OWNS IT.

This is most important for us to remember. Too often we look at the city where we live and see all of the problems. We see the drunkenness. We see the loose sexuality. We see poverty. We see divorce. We see a city that has turned its back on the Lord. We call our city hard ground. We identify it by its problems. As though it is owned by Satan and his demons. This is not true.

When we speak against our city, and discus how the enemy is in control, we are putting ourselves in opposition to God. When we treat our city like it is too far from God for Him to move in our city. We are usurping His power and authority. We talk about the principalities and ruling spirits in our city, and we often are referring to the problems in our city. However, the rule spirit in our city is now and always Has been the HOLY SPIRIT. God allows the darkness to operate in the city because He wants us to partner with Him in establishing righteousness. He allows humanity to choose who they serve, to choose how they live.

Let’s stop giving authority to the Devil. Lets stop making him out to be all big and bad. 1st John 4 assures us that; “Greater is He who is in us, than he who is in the world.” If this is true, and God is greater, why do we act like our cities are so hard to take. We can see transformation in our city. We can see the people of our city come to Christ… When God steps down into the city everything changes.

I will end part one with a video. It is an Audio Account of the Hebrides revival from Duncan Campbell himself. He shares about the moment when God stepped down from heaven and EVERYTHING CHNAGED. I can only ask you to spare the next 9 minutes of your time to listen to this. I assure you, if you listen, you will hear a life changing message. If we learn from the lessons of our Past leaders, we can see how to experience revival coming to our city. they had something special that we need to see in our lives and ministries.
