Psalm 24 – The Path to Revival. [Part 2]
This is Part 2 in a series, Click here to read [Part 1]
Psalm 24 is more than just a beautiful song, or passionate scripture. It is a key. Line by line, God is teaching us something through David. Since it is a short passage, I will post the entire passage, and then we will go verse by verse. If we understand the lesson God is speaking here, we might just find ourselves one step closer to revival.
A Psalm of David.
The earth is the LORD’S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers. Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from the LORD And righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face–even Jacob. Selah. Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates, And lift them up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.
This passage ends with The King of Glory coming in. This is more or less what we call REVIVAL. All of the great awakenings and revivals of the church have been marked by an increase of the Presence of God. So, if that is the goal, lets see what happens before the King of Glory comes in. “…For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers.” Psalm 24:2
In the first part our theme was GOD OWNS YOUR CITY! But in verse 2, we see the why. It would be simple just to say, “He founded it.” and finish the post, but there is something more in this verse that I think we need to recognize. That is the issue of WATERS! Water is a big issue around the world. From the places where they do not have drinking water, to the lands where crops are dying because of drought.
Water sustains life. Humanity cannot live if we do not have water to drink. Humanity cannot eat if there is no water to cause the crops to grow. Life requires water. By now, you are probably wondering where I am going with this, and I respect that.
If God founded the earth upon the waters, he can bring us the waters. If we are experiencing drought, or we have no water. We need to turn our hearts to Jesus . Lets look at a passage in 2nd Chronicles.
“If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2nd Chronicles 7:13-14
When we turn to God, who creator the world, founded it on the waters, and owns it, he will help us. When God created mankind, he charged us with keeping the earth. He wants to see us cultivate it, help it grow. So for that to happen we need water. When we keep our covenants with God, when we honor and worship Him, he provides rain.
It is important to remember God’s place and our place. He is our sustainer. He is our Shield and our Buckler. We need to hold fast to Him and all that He is.
- GOD OWNS YOUR CITY
- GOD CONTROLS THE WATERS
