A Tale of Two fathers

Since it is saturday, I wanted to give a short article just to give you something to think on this weekend. In my study of the Bible, I have noticed something interesting. I call it the tale of Two fathers. You see, in all of human History there have only been two fathers. There is YHVH who is the Our Father, and the father of our Faith. Then there is Satan, or the Devil. Every single person in History is a Child of one of these two fathers. But I want to share a little about the History of each of them.

1. YHVH has always existed. He was in the beginning, and he created the world.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.

2. This same father also gives us gifts.

“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” James 1:17

3. Furthermore, we know that he has chosen to adopt us. He desires us because He loves us.

“For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” Romans 8:15

“But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”  Galatians 4:4-6

See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 1st John 3:1

If you look through the Bible, you will see the love of God demonstrated over and over, but the Chief example of this love is that He sent His Son to die for us that we could be adopter into His family. You are loved by a very passionate God. His desire is to be able to fully relate to you. But there is another father.

1. The Devil is a murderer and a Liar.

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44

2.  The Devil is an Oppressor

“You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38

3. The Devil is a tempter

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” Matthew 4:1

I know this was a short little bit, but I wanted to show the simple differences between the two fathers. One is a good father who loves and lavishes gifts upon His children. The other is a liar, deceiver, and tempter who wants nothing but Power and control. There is a simple way to be assured that Your father is YHVH. The solution, receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour. He is the free gift of God that has been given so that you can be adopted into the family of YHVH. It is a blessing to be able to cry out ABBA, FATHER.

I hope you are all having a good weekend, Out here in Kansas it is once more beginning to snow. Pray that it doesn’t get too bad.

  1. Excellent post. Glad to see that someone else has noticed the two “fathers”. I have long held that YHVH is actually the deceiver father who I call the God Below God. This certainly changes one’s perspective on history and the creation story, but actually makes God more understandable and can actually improve one’s relationship with the true father.

    • I am sorry that you believe that YHVH is the Deceiver. All of the scripture tells us that it is Satan who is the deceiver and YHVH is the source or All truth, and the light that illuminates truth. I personally affirm that truth. YHVH is the Father of Lights and the only Good father.

      • So let’s start with the scripture that you quoted above (John 8:44). Jesus addresses the disciples and says that their father is the devil. Here the term “father” obviously means god because he is referring to the collective father of all the disciples. The Gospel Of Judas echoes this sentiment when it says that Jesus told Judas that the disciples were praying to a false god. John 3:12 elaborates on this theme saying that Cain’s father was the evil one and Amos 3:6 says that. “…shall there be evil in a city and the Lord hath not done it.” Because of the John quotation, one might come to the conclusion that the evil one one might be Adam. However, the Jewish esoteric texts, which were used as a source for the writers of the Bible, clearly say that YHVH was the father of Cain. There are other Christian scriptures and ancient texts which also discuss who YHVH was, but perhaps the above suffices. I would appreciate your thoughts and comments.
